How to Apply EasyWeed and Glitter HTV to a Lanyard

While I love music I never had much skill with an instrument. So people who can not only play in a band, but are also coordinated enough to step in time and perform a routine impress the heck out of me. Marching bands do more than perform at football games though. Trips, competitions, parades, and other events also fill their time. You could build a whole business around band themed items! Today I’m sharing a custom lanyard project to get you started!

What You’ll Need

Begin by measuring the lanyard width. Mine is 1″ so I made my text .5″ tall and added a music note from the Sure Cuts A Lot artwork library.

Don’t forget to mirror your image before cutting, otherwise your HTV will appear backwards after it’s ironed on.

Next I cut lemon EasyWeed HTV and gold Glitter. Check out the cut settings for these materials plus more iCraft basics in this post.

After each piece is cut, weed away the excess vinyl until only your text is left. Next, place the sticky side of the clear carrier to your lanyard and position your transfers.

Cut a piece of parchment paper to size to use as a cover sheet. Now if you’d like to press this lanyard on the go or at an event you can use a flat iron or hair straightener.

Set the iron as close as you can to the 300°F-320°F range. Then instead of the usual sliding motion you’re used to with a hair straightener, press in sections starting from the center. Pressing the center first keeps the HTV aligned. Apply heat to each section for 15-20 seconds.

You can peel EasyWeed’s carrier hot, but give Glitter’s carrier a few extra seconds to cool before peeling it warm. Recover each side and press for an additional 5 seconds to seal any lifting edges.

Now your custom lanyard is ready to sell!
